Motorcycle Accident Causes Death of Legislator's Son
A motorcycle accident in St. Augustine, Florida resulted in the death of the son of Legislator Teresa Sayward. Kyle Sayward, crashed his 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle while driving on U.S. Route 1 in St. Autustine, Florida. He had been in Georgia working in a construction project and had gone to St. Augustine for the weekend. Marion Ronn, a passenger on the motorcycle, was rushed to the hospital in serious condition and was treated at the Shands Hospital trauma unit. Both Sayward and Ronn were not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The law in Florida requires that motorcycle riders to wear helmets unless they have nearly $10,000 in medical coverage.
Police investigators believe that Sayward was driving north on Route 1 and most likely lost control of the motorcycle. He appeared to be driving below the 45 miles per hour speed limit and possibly hit a curb tossing both occupants off the motorcycle. Sayward was taken to the Flagler Hospital with traumatic head injuries. He passed away while undergoing emergency treatment. “It’s hard to imagine something like that happening. He had a small son. Our hearts go out to the family,” said Essex County District Attorney Julie Garcia.
