Morning Dew Causes Series of Morning Accidents
A State trooper with the Wisconsin State Police is taking some time off work after being injured in a rollover accident early in the morning, January 8. Trooper Scott Hlinak, early Sunday morning lost control of his police car on the bridge that crosses a branch of the Fond du Lac River by Military Road. The car crashed through a fence, flipped over and stopped by East Frontage Road. According to Sgt. Brad Seymour of the Wisconsin State Patrol, “He’s doing O.K, He’s off for a couple days because of the injuries.”
This accident was one of many reported to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department January 8. The weather in Fond du Lac has been warm for this season, causing the string of accidents. The dew point change combined with the unseasonably warm weather, surprisingly caused the bridges to ice up early in the morning. People did not expect the sudden ice-over on the bridges, so numerous accidents occurred. The roads de-iced by later in the morning.
