Idaho Man Still Missing After Helping Out At Accident Scene

A city councilman from Idaho is still missing after he stopped at the scene of a car accident on a bridge. The accident occurred on Interstate 84 east of The Dalles, Oregon. Investigators are worried that he may have jumped into the John Day River to avoid being hit by another car. John Dickinson, from Moscow, Idaho stopped to assist another motorist who had crashed while trying to avoid debris on the interstate bridge. Immediately after Dickinson got out of his car, his own vehicle was hit from behind. Investigators still cannot find him.

Police investigators are suspicious that he may have either fallen off the bridge or jumped the railing in an effort to avoid being hit in the second accident. Search teams are currently looking for Dickinson, but have been unsuccessful so far. The John Day River is 80 feel deep, and about 40 degrees in the area under the bridge. If Dickinson did end up being forced over the guardrail, it will be the second incident since mid-December. Two weeks ago, Brian Bernier from Vancouver, Washington also stopped his vehicle to assist after a crash on a bridge. A passing vehicle then forced him over the bridge guardrail and down a 50 foot drop. Bernier was found dead on the scene.
