Mine Under Investigation Following Accident

In Harrsburg, Pennsylvania, government officials have temporarily revoked the licenses of three mine supervisors pending a full investigation following an explosion that killed an experienced miner in Schuylkill County. The names of the supervisors are not being released until government officials complete their investigation into the incident that occurred at the Buck Slope Mountain Mine. The victim, Dale Reightler, died as a result of an explosion that occurred 2,300 feet deep in the mine.

Pa. Suspends Mine Officials' Certificates In Mining Accident

According to a Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) representative, the underground part of the investigation is complete and officials with both the DEP and the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration have recommended adjustments in ventilation controls and blasting procedure. The Buck Slope Mountain Mine is still closed and will be until the required changes are made and officials ensure that safe operating procedures will be maintained.
