Mine Under Investigation Following Accident

In Harrsburg, Pennsylvania, government officials have temporarily revoked the licenses of three mine supervisors pending a full investigation following an explosion that killed an experienced miner in Schuylkill County. The names of the supervisors are not being released until government officials complete their investigation into the incident that occurred at the Buck Slope Mountain Mine. The victim, Dale Reightler, died as a result of an explosion that occurred 2,300 feet deep in the mine.

Pa. Suspends Mine Officials' Certificates In Mining Accident

According to a Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) representative, the underground part of the investigation is complete and officials with both the DEP and the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration have recommended adjustments in ventilation controls and blasting procedure. The Buck Slope Mountain Mine is still closed and will be until the required changes are made and officials ensure that safe operating procedures will be maintained.

Accident Causes Fatalities in Valley Mills

A car accident in Valley Mills, Texas on Highway 6 between Speegleville and Valley Mills caused one death, several other injuries and closed the road for hours. The accident occurred at the corner of Compton Road and Highway 6 early in the morning. Police representatives report that the accident involved three cars. There was one fatality and a few other people with injuries received treatment at Hillcrest Hospital. The condition of the injured victims has not yet been released.

Car Accident Causes the Death of One High School Student

A car accident involving two high school students resulted in one fatality. The students were on their way to school when their car hydroplaned on wet pavement. The car, driven by Breanna Aswege, spun across the eastbound lane and crashed into a tree. Seth Aswege, the passenger, had to be cut from the car and died after arrival at the Trinity Medical Center West Campus. The school was informed of the accident and death. They also offered counselors to provide grief counseling. According to the school superintendent, Jack Bambrick, students and staff who are struggling will have the chance to speak to them.” Officials are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Series of Accidents on I-70

The recent rash of winter weather resulted in a tragic car accident on I-70 causing one fatality and six other injuries. A woman from Lawrence, Kansas was killed when the car she was riding in spun out of control, slid across the median into oncoming traffic and was hit by an oncoming minivan. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the weather played a factor in the accident as freezing rain had started to fall. Traffic was disrupted following the accident while officials conducted their investigation.

Car Accident Causes One Fatality

An car accident in Horry County, South Carolina resulted in one fatality; three others are in critical condition. While the accident remains under investigation, one person died on the scene and the others were rushed to the hospital. The victims were probably part of a construction crew traveling home from work. The Highway Patrol and reconstruction team is still investigation the cause of the incident.

MADD Encourages New Technology

The Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) are encouraging state-wide adoption of a new technology to help save future victims of drunk driving. Cars can be equipped with a device that would detect the alcohol in a driver’s breath. The car will not start unless the breath-alcohol levels are within legal limits. According to MADD over 13,000 people die each year as a result of drunk driving with a blood alcohol concentration of eight-hundredths of one percent.

Man's Arm Severed in Traffic Accident

A car accident in Goldsby, Oklahoma resulted in serious injuries when a man’s arm was severed in a traffic accident. The man was driving with his arm hanging out the window when his car drifted too close to oncoming traffic. His arm became lodged in a passing car and was torn off. Accident Caused Traumatic Brain Injury

A traffic accident in Fairfield, California resulted in the death of a 74-year-old man. According to the California Highway Patrol, Kenneth Graybeal died when the Dodge Grand Caravan minivan, in which he was a passenger, was hit behind by a semi-trailer, forced into an intersection and hit by a Kia sedan. The man suffered traumatic brain injury to the head, causing his death.
