MoisturePlus: What's the Problem with Complete MoisturePlus?

Advanced Medical Optics, the manufacturer of Complete MoisturePlus, the recalled contact lens solution, says they are unsure why their product has been linked to an eye infection that can leave people blinded. This is worrisome because the company does not know what is wrong with their product. The infection that has been linked to the contact lens solution, acanthamoeba keratitis, is difficult to treat and can be blinding.

What Is Wrong With Complete MoisturePlus?

Doctors around the United States say that they already have been overwhelmed with questions from concerned patients. Dr. Robert Cykiert, an opthamologist from New York University Medical Center, says that "the literature suggests that about half the patients [infected with acanthamoeba keratitis] will eventually need corneal transplants, compared to 30 percent for Fusarium." Health authorities say that the actual risk of infection from using the solution is fairly low, but they still recommend throwing away any unused Complete MoisturePlus.
