MoisturePlus: Advanced Medical Quiet about Recall

Advanced Medical is not updating its financial guidance after Complete Moisture Plus contact solution was recalled. The company has said that it plans to replace the solution with another solution by the end of the year. Citigroup analyst Andrew Swanson says that "It is not clear to us that the relaunch of an older formulation under the Complete umbrella (or increased promotion of hydrogen-peroxide regimens) is likely to drive significant share recapture."

MoisturePlus products accounted for about 10 percent of AMO's yearly profits. Chris Cooley, an analyst with FTN Midwest, believes that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will expand the recall to include contact solutions made by other companies. "We continue to expect some modest form of exoneration for Advanced Medical Optics' Complete MoisturePlus multipurpose contact-lens care offering by the CDC, as the agency's investigation continues," Cooley wrote.
