Amtrak Worker Dies of Heart Attack
Stephen M. Parker, an Amtrak flagman who was working at a construction site appears to have died from a heart attack after a train hit a piece of equipment that was on the wrong track. Parker is said to have had a medical condition and was rushed to New England Medical Center; he was pronounced dead at 3 a.m.
The construction company was employed by Jay Cashman Inc. They had been working on a bridge. Transit police investigating the accident say that Aktrak employees were authorized to work on three of the tracks in the area, but not on track number 5, which is where the piece of equipment was stuck. Amtrak officials still are working to figure out what happened. None of the passengers on the train was injured.
